About My Etching Process

How It Started

sean.jpg

I have been working with my wife for many years training and selling dressage horses at Antares Dressage.  Over the years I have taken many photos.  I also spent time as professional photographer too.

I thought it would be interesting to take some of my images and my ideas of what horses should look like (not clip art) and translate that to products horse people would find interesting.

The Process

I started by using a CO2 laser engraver/cutter to etch on various materials such as wood, glass, leather, and other things.  While the laser is an interesting tool it is not ideal for everything.  I started sandblasting on hard surfaces such as glass, granite, stone, tile and other ceramic items like mugs to achieve much better results than a laser can achieve.

I use my own photos or antique artwork as a basis to draw out a design.  I then make a mask and blast the piece with a high pressure fine grained abrasive.

I will be adding more info and photos to explain the process soon.

Future ideas on my mind are western horse themes and other animals like dogs or cats.
